Information technology professionals are the new rock stars? According to two lists of the best jobs in the country – yes!
Both CareerCast.com and U.S. News and World Report are out with their annual rankings of the best jobs in 2012, and information technology leads the pack.
Of the 10 best jobs in the country, half are information technology, according to U.S. News and World Report’s list. Software developer comes in at number two, followed by database administrator (#5), web developer (#6), computer systems analyst (#7) and computer programmer (#9). And CareerCast.com ranks software engineer as the best job in the country, with computer systems analyst coming in at number nine.
“We’re enjoying a true technology revolution, and techies who can lead that effort by creating and managing great software can write their own tickets,” says Tony Lee, publisher of CareerCast.com
Both organizations ranked the top jobs based on current hiring demand, average salary, job satisfaction, work environment and projected job prospects among other factors.
It’s the projected job prospects that helped launch information technology to the top of the list. The demand for IT pros is so great, the supply of new engineering and IT professionals can’t keep up.
In addition to its overall list of the best jobs, CareerCast.com listed the 12 best jobs in engineering and information technology:
